CNJ Class C 39 2-8-0 Camelback
This famous CNJ camelback class has never before been offered in HO. Back in the 1980s Lee Town promised a kit, but did not go forward with it. The Eddystone model is yet another example of sensible projects being initiated by a return customer. He ordered a pair of them. Aren't you glad he did? Now you can too. The " Wobbly Bugs" were 10 in number, built by Brooks in 1906. The nickname arises from the shimmy motion some camelbacks exhibit when running at a good clip. Originally class I 4, the road numbers were 675 to 684. Withdrawal began in 1948 with 676 being torn down by Eastport shops. The 683 survived until March of 1953. Ironically, these ponderous freight locomotives were originally designed and delivered to haul heavy commuter trains in northern New Jersey. Many modifications came with time. Walschaerts valve gear
was added, superheating came in 1919=1921. The Eddystone model has not been fully designed. They will use Bowser zinc frames, and rods, with drivers made from parts obtained in England. They will use the Eddystone As 36 drive, for smooth, steady power, with very good low speed performance.. Digitrax and Soundtraxx T'sunami are key options as always. ATC systems, and Power Reverse will be options, as will Miss Liberty or older style lettering, and of course, weathering- lite or heavy. Well balanced weight will be about a pound.
