D&H E6A

The class E6 1200s began with an experimental, pulverized coal burner built by Alco in 1916 While the D&H did not stay with pulverized coal as a fuel, the 1200 was so successful that in 1917 twenty more machines were ordered. They were built by Alco in 1918, numbers 1201-1222. This project was initiated by a return customer, a working freight conductor.

The massive E 6As were assigned to the Pennsylvania Division, and lasted into the 1950s. They worked along side the E5As, and later, Challengers in heavy freight service.

The E 6A project is in its early phase, price and availability to be announced. Watch this webpage for update information. The project is being developed from the work of a former D&H Bingtamton, NY roundhouse worker, who measured them, and drew them in ¼" scale, as well as numerous photographs. The Bachmann Spectrum 2-8-0 engine will be modified to suit, and used for plenty of smooth, quiet power. Working Kadee # 5 couplers will be standard at both ends, as well crew, coal tools, and MV Products lenses Digitrax and Soundtraxx T'sunami decoders are options, as will be light or heavy weathering.
