Finish Work

FINISH WORK: This is basically custom painting. Operations which are typically included are:

1) Very minor repairs or modifications such as changing couplers, or adding jeweled class lamps or crew, etc.

2) Removing old finish, if paint is chipped/peeling, to avoid excessive paint build up, etc. Required disassembly of model, and surface preparation are also done.

3) Painting and decaling, reassembly after paint has fully cured.

Major painting is by airbrush, minor and specialty work are by brush.
We cannot guarantee durable paint adhesion to certain materials sometimes used as wheel rims, side, main rods and valve gear. Where we can identify such an issue, such parts are left unpainted. We cannot guarantee paint adhesion to such moving parts on paint friendly metals. Lubrication, movement, falling over onto adjacent rails, etc. can all make imperfections in painted rods. Most painted rod/wheel surfaces will of course retain most of their paint. You can order such work as long as you agree to be responsible for any future touch up needs. We tell you what paint was used so you can match correctly.

We do not paint brass models. If you do not have a good quality brass custom painter, check with your hobby shop, at train shows, etc. Always ask for references and fully understand what you will be sold.

Always talk to more than one custom painter, before choosing one. Good ones always have a backlog, and they should charge what to you seems a lot. There are no low priced "deals" in responsible brass painting.

Look for people who can sand blast your model, and, ideally, bake it once painted. Poor paint jobs on brass can severely undermine its resale value destroying your investment dreams.
