EDDYSTONEbuilds very well detailed, realistic, fine running
steam locomotives to customer specifications, one at a time. Most are
northeastern US prototypes, especially those of the anthracite railroads
of PA, NY and NJ. Production models use commercially available mechanism
parts, urethane resin castings with ad on detail parts. Their greater
realism and output set them apart from mass production work.
EDDYSTONE models are designed, tooled and built by one
craftsman assuring responsibility and good results. He has built over
1,000 steam models and has worked professionally as a prototype steam
locomotive mechanic. Most models have been for individual modelers, worldwide.
Other customers have included a class 1 railroad, railroad museums, clubs,
and one for his mother. He pioneered the use of resin castings in HO steam
modeling.
Engineering grade urethane resin casting are premium quality material,
and do not compromise with age the way early, utility grade resins can.
Pins and carefully selected high performance adhesives are used in construction.
Sandblasting before painting assures excellent adhesion-just as is done
with quality brass finish work.
A boiler and tender done in 1990 have been outdoors for the last ten
years in direct sunlight, etc facing temperatures ranging from 95 to minus
20. Some paint fading is the only consequence. A locomotive built in '92
recently came in for cleaning and lubrication. No degradation, nor parts
off, etc.
In addition to limited production run jobs, the following
steam locomotive modeling work is performed:
1) Custom built locomotives, unique "one off" models; usually
of the locomotive you always wanted but couldn't get. Custom-built locomotives
have moved up in the past year to become half the locomotives ordered.
It's the fastest way to get the locomotive you want, and it's built with
a lot of input from you.
2) Building Bowser locomotives, locomotive mechanisms, and repowering
certain earlier Bachmann plastic steamers using English's MRS repower
kits from Bowser. This fall Eddystone has been named The Custom Builder
to Bowser manufacturing.
3)Superdetailing, sometimes as standard packages where
a mass production model is modified to become an accurate model of a specific
prototype. In other cases it's a unique upgrade to customer's specification.
Such work transforms ordinary steamers to very fine models.
4)Custom finish work-such as repainting, decaling and weathering,
often with a little super detailing in the mix.
5) DCC and sound installation and sales.EDDYSTONE
is an authorized DIGITRAX and SOUNDTRAXX installer. EDDYSTONEcan also sell you components below list price to help you upgrade
your entire layout. Smoke unit and directional lighting installations
are also done.
6) Miscellaneous-EDDYSTONEsometimes acts as a purveyor
of anything from technical drawings and locomotive photos to importing
odd sized drivers and side rods, etc. from Europe.
