What's New as of January 2008 HAPPY NEW YEAR! Good news to start a fine new year for all of us! The backlog is out of the way, and we are again taking orders. If you have been on waiting list status, contact us at your earliest convenience. We will not be taking orders for one-off custom built locos till 2009. Production work loco orders, building mechanisms, reworking brass locos, " Overhauls", and building Bowser locos , paint/ install decoder, etc. are all welcome. In order to keep the level of work on the books where I, and our customers prefer it, we will also not agree to any new Production loco development projects until all scheduled have been brought to market. See the Products Section to see what locos have yet to be developed. Except for the D&H 4-8-4s, they are shown as black and white photos. Locos currently in construction are shown with color pictures. The L&NE E 14s 301-307 have begun production! Numbers 304 and 305 are currently available. See Products Section. Don't be frustrated by the unavailability of the 1990s brass version; now you can have all the E 14s you want, to your specs! The L&HR 90 Class heavy Consolidations are soon to be released. The first copy goes to Warwick, New York. What could be more appropriate than that? The L&HR locos will be numbers 90-93, with the air pumps on the left. They are in late configuration, with Worthington SA feed water heater, and the tender has the dog house. The locos use a modified Bachmann Spectrum 2-8-0 drive for plenty of smooth, quiet power. It also means that you can double head them for interesting operations with such other Eddystone locomotives as the L&NE E 12 camelback, the L&NE E 14 Consolidations, and the LV N 4 Mikados and the yet to be released CNJ C-39 Camelbacks! Watch for updates of this website, soon enough a color
photo of the first completed LHR 90 class will appear. I haven't gone out of my way to seek it, but more and more often people come to me with a brass steamer which won't run right, is in pieces, or otherwise needs work- such as install sound decoder, and paint it. The most infamous of these lately has been the old Nickle Plate Products DL&W 4-8-4. Everyone complains about their running (?) characteristics, and their cross head guides and valve gear hanger are frail, and often break apart. 1639 shown below came in for re-detailing, Soundtraxx T'sunami, repowering, and valve gear and trailer truck work. I might just as well have built it, for all the upgrading required.
DLW sharpies will wonder at the lack of Mars light, given the configuration of the loco (raised coal boards, etc) Owner doesn't like the Mars light, so it was left off. Loco now runs like a charm, is properly detailed, has full cab interior, a voice, and is Pocono, as Pocono should be. I even reworked the cylinders, and cast up my own sand box. There is a COMPLETE l ash pan and the trailer truck tracks very well. The job came in less than the cost of an Eddystone Production
loco, and about half of what a ca. 2008 This Rutland Ry 2-8-0 is a Key Imports / Samhongsa model.
It came to me as a basket case, all in pieces.
Well, folks, we're back to an ideal schedule, and seek
to keep it. It would have happened sooner were it not for the flood
of June 28, 2006 messing with my foundations and driveway. I had to
replace my home, relocate the Eddystone shop building, rebuild my
driveway, replace well and septic pumps, and reshape the land to deal
effectively with severe storm surges---- all while reducing the backlog
of jobs on order. |
